2016 CrossFit Open is here and you should sign up!

By Kevin Ostrander It’s that time of year again. The 2016 CrossFit Open is right around the corner.  For those of you new to CrossFit this is how the “Open” works.  For five weeks, there are five workouts, thousands of athletes will have the opportunity to participate in a WOD and submit their scores online. From those scores, the top males, females, and teams from each region will go on to Regionals. The top five from each Region then go on to the CrossFit Games in California where the best of the best will throw down on the big stage in pursuit of the title of  “Fittest on Earth” over several days in July.  Last year, the “Open” had more than 275,000 athletes participate from around the world.   I think your name should be added to that statistic this year.  Anyone…. yes anyone… can sign up. The Open workouts are designed to be tough but doable. If you have been following LGCF programming for a couple of months, you are capable of participating in the Open. You might only finish one round in an As Many Rounds As Possible (AMRAP) workout. You might not make it all the way through an increasing weightlifting ladder. You might finish dead last, yes I said finish dead last. But you can do it.    Like many CrossFitters, I’m thrilled for the event, and so is Lisa. The Open has become a lively event for our LGCF community, having 50 participants last year. We always encourage our members to register, even when they balk at the idea. Introducing the idea of physical competition to someone often evokes a myriad of responses and emotions they probably haven’t felt in awhile. We keep encouraging though, because we know the thrill that awaits you on the other side of diving into the Open and accomplishing a small win in your fitness. Here are four reasons why we encourage you to do the same. Yes, You are good enough… Even if you cannot do the exact prescribed weight of any or most of the Open workouts, you will […]

New Products!

Finally, we have Kill Cliff back in stock! Every flavor they offer is available and since Dirk is not in charge of inventory…it will stay that way!! Also, be on the lookout for the addition of the best meal replacement bar on the market, Perfect Foods Bars. Initially we will carry peanut butter, almond butter, and cranberry crunch. However, the products we are most excited to be offering are PurePharma’s supplements. We have personally tested PurePharma products over the past year and can attest to their benefits. They are high quality supplements that legitimately aid in recovery and overall health. We highly recommend you check out the fantastic blog on their website, especially their information on Omega-3’s and gut health. We will be carrying fish oil, SB3 probiotic blend, vitamin D, and the essential minerals.

New Class Schedule Starting February 1st

We would like to announce the addition of a 5:30am class to the LGCF members. Many people have expressed some level of interest in having a 5:30am class so we have decided to give it a try. Starting February 1st we will begin having classes on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. If we see regular participation we will consider adding additional 5:30am classes during the week. In addition to adding the new class, we would also like to inform you that also starting February 1, we are moving the start time of the 4:00pm class to 4:30pm. We feel the later start time will give some members a little more time to make the 4:30pm class.

Weightlifting takes practice…

Believe it or not this is my way of encouraging you guys. This post contains a link to an article I feel explains how to get good at weightlifting. I’m not gonna sum it up for you…you need to read it. I’m not gonna add anything to it…it’s stated very clearly. I just think this article is very fitting today; when we are working on snatches and drilling the technique it takes to get good at them.

Saturday Morning Winter Partner Series

Find a partner and get ready for our Saturday Morning Winter Partner Series! We know how much everyone loves partner workouts so we’ve decided to take your average workout a step further. This partner series is going to be same sex (girl/girl or boy/boy) so find a partner, make up your team name, and decide what you’re going to wear! What: There will likely be two parts each week. You should expect a heavy component and a conditioning component. Workout details will not be released until later in the week. Please be prepared to judge/count each other’s reps. Weekly winners will be named and overall champions announced but this is for FUN! Keep in mind that there won’t be any gold medals handed out. Why: This is a great way for you to release some competitive energy. This series allows you to meet and compete with other LGCF members to see where you stack up. Who: This event is for any current LGCF members. The workouts will be challenging but there will be scaling options, everyone can participate! Depending on the number of teams there may be a RX’d division and a Scaled division. When: Week one is next Saturday! This series runs for 4 consecutive weeks from December 26th until January 16th. Each week is from 8-10am. Additional Ground Rules: There will be team sign-up board in the lounge area of the gym. Don’t wait until the last second please get your team on the board. You don’t have to have the same partner each week. However, to be the overall winning team you do have to compete every week with the same partner. You have the option to participate in every week’s workout or only select weeks if you have scheduling conflicts. Arrive around 7:40 to warm-up and make sure you are familiar with the workouts. Please set aside the time to compete if you’re interested. Don’t come to me and tell me how you need to be in the first heat because you have somewhere to be. There is no cost but don’t be surprised if in the […]
